It was incomprehensible, I was literally sitting in my mother’s hospital room watching her die, while writing the obituary for my father, who had died the night before. There was no car crash or unfortunate event that caused them to both die in the same week. Cancer was taking them both separately, at the same time. It wasn’t the first time I had lost my parents, but it would be the last. As a child, I didn’t have a mother and father like everyone else, I had my grandparents who took me in when my parents got a little lost with their own lives.
